Dear Teachers, Parents and my dear Students,

First of all let me place on record my hearty congratulations and sincere well wishes to all the award winning students of this evening. It is a moment of great pride for all of us and especially for the students and their parents who have made it to this day. All of you who are sitting there having received your awards will agree with me that ‘success is the reward of toil' and it is a heady combination of hard work, parental guidance and support and encouragement from your teachers.

One day a young mother met Aristotle with this question, "When should I begin training my child?" "How old is your child?" asked Aristotle. "Why, he is five years old", answered the mother. "Hurry home", cried Aristotle, "You are five years late already."

Well, dear parents, you entrusted these young men when they were just five years old, and you dear students, some of you may remember that first day when you walked into the portals of this school, some crying, some laughing and brimming with excitement, some confused, some bewildered, and some of you may not even remember that day. After almost 11 years of journey that I am sure all of you will cherish throughout your life, you have

Fr Principal: Hard lessons learnt

Friday, October 9 was indeed a ‘Black Friday' for all of us as on that day Atif Mustafa, a 2nd standard boy of our school was cruelly snatched away from us. This was done not by any professional kidnappers, but somebody who knew the boy so well and ironically that caused him his life as the kidnappers realized that Atif recognized them and so they mercilessly killed him! Our hearts go out in deep condolences to the bereaved family that lost its precious gem.

Atif, however, taught us some hard lessons with his own life - that in the present situation nobody, including the school children, is safe; that nobody can be fully trusted as it was his van driver who, instead of dropping him to the school took away and handed him over to the kidnappers; that the public administration is not concerned about the safety and security of the children as the road in front of the school has been blocked for many months in spite of repeated request to open it for the sake of school children; that none of us can afford to be recalcitrant in executing our responsibilities. A costly class indeed! But we will miss you Atif.

Fr SebastianDear Parents/Guardians,

I have been in the office of the Principal for nearly three months and I feel it is time that I reach to you individually at least through this letter. It wasn't easy for me to handle the disturbances and confusion caused by the local media and a few parents after the recent fee hike. Unfortunately, some of the same parents are ready to cough up any amount of money for the tuitions of their wards. But remember that good quality education comes at a high premium even in India since the free education in India is in a pathetic condition.

Fr Principal: Mediocrity vs. excellence

Fr George Fernandes, SJ Thursday, 14 May 2009 12:25

For the last few weeks De Nobili Schools have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons or so it was made to appear in the media. Besides the hooliganism by a section of parents and a few politically motivated groups, who went to the extent of locking up the entrance gates of some of our schools, the electronic and the print media cast a slur on themselves by poisoning the minds of the public with clearly maneuvered stories and in the process projected the schools as exploiters and wrong doers. Why not? Why should the schools have hiked the fees? It seems that we for long have been providing ‘cheap' education, leading towards mediocrity than excellence. Why then was this sudden change? It might give a wrong notion to the people, who would want to believe that we have limited ourselves to a privileged few, who can cope with the high cost of education.
