Each day, irrespective of how hot or how cold it was, every student had to take part in a military style drill between 11:00 am and 11:30 am. Any absence or truancy from the drill was taken seriously and punishable with an extra 45 minutes drill later in the day in lieu of the games period. Each year, the military style drill took on an added vibrancy when the Sports Day approached in February. A few days before the Sports Day, drill became a serious business and culminated in a grand parade to mark the start of the Sports Day.
The Commander-in-Chief and his deputy led the proceedings followed by the Head Boys of each House and their drill masters. Mr. Maneckshaw and later Mr. Bernard Pandey, were responsible for ensuring the precision and discipline that marked the military drill of De Nobili School. The House system comprised the basis of De Nobili's sporting and other extra-curricular activities. Points were awarded for inter-house sports competitions which included athletics, hockey, cricket, soccer, basketball and tennis. Rolling shields were awarded to the Best House and to the Best Sportsmen in various categories.
