Nobilians staged excerpts from the classical movie 'The Sound of Music' in the new Fr McFarland Auditorium, named after the Founder Principal of the school, Fr McFarland SJ.The auditorium is beautifully built with state of art facility and can seat over a thousand on two floors. It cost around Rs 8 million largely funded by the Tatas. Also, the new Gate is ready complimenting the Indo-Mughal architecture of De Nobili main building.
"It is definitely the best auditorium in the whole district of Dhanbad. This was made possible because of t Fr Pius Fernandes SJ's single minded mission," said Samit Ghosh, guest of honour at the function and alumnus (65 batch). Samit and his wife, Elaine contributed towards the audiovisual equipment and helped raise more funds.
The School requires to raise Rs 5 lakh for the equipment required for the auditorium. So far two Nobilians have contributed Rs 1.5 lakh. Alumni are requested to contribute generously.
Mr B Muthuraman, MD, Tata Steel had earlier consented to unveil the plaque on this historic occasion. Unfortunately, the recent acquisition of Chorus by Tatas kept him away from the event. Mr Diwakar, GM, Tata Steel represented the company at the event.
