The school has acted as a green oasis and an escape in polluted and suffocating coalfield. The famous gardens and the forestry has been a part of the alumni's memory of DNS. The beautiful rose garden, the berry tree in the junior section, the eucalyptus rows, the gulmohar lines to teachers' quarters, the cactus plant at the entrance (no more there), the huge jackfruits… the fish ponds, the water lilies, the papaya trees… the list is endless!

This year the grape vine is laden with fruits which will soon be ripe. It is worth mentioning that yield of grapes is highest this year and the quality is also remarkable.

Huge jackfruits hanging from the trees will surely attract the attention of any one who happens to pass by. The cocoa plant which was planted five years ago is also ready with its pods drooping down.  Fishes in the small tank are fine with lush green aquatic Flora to devour upon.

Unfortunately, this year the school has lost lots of trees, due to construction work and storms. So it is expected that the Tarumitra members will work really hard to make up the loss.

The credit behind this huge collection goes to Fr KC Anthony who worked for years to develop this treasure house of plants.

Gardens

Gardens play a vital role in rejuvenating the fatigued minds of the students. Our school can surely boast of housing some of the most beautiful gardens in the coalfield. There are about seven big gardens in our school out of which five are in senior school and the other two in junior school.

The big garden at the entrance is reserved for some big ornamental plants like dahlia and big variety of sunflower. A huge bottle palm tree stands erect to welcome everyone. Adjacent to it is another garden where we can find Fish tail palm in a row and some species of Hibiscus.

Next to it is the famous Rose garden. A stranger will surely be spellbound to the large variety and sizes of roses in garden. The huge garden next to the assembly also has some perennial plants like Poinsettia Mussaenda, Euphorbia milli and several species cacti of and seasonal plants.

The two Gardens along the school building is meant specially for seasonal plants like Carnation, Pansy, Aster, Marigold, Antirrhinum(Dog Flower), hollyhock, cockscomb and chrysanthemum.

The beauty of these gardens increases manifold during the winter when the gardens are in full bloom and looks nothing less than a paradise.
