It gives me immense pleasure to note that De Nobili School, Digwadih, is bringing out its Annual Magazine for the year 2006-2007. The contribution of Christian Missionaries in the field of education throughout the world, and in particular in our country, is a well-known fact.  Dhanbad is no exception. Over the past fifty years, the relentless striving for excellence for the cause of education, dispelling the darkness of ignorance, has been the hallmark of De Nobili.

The sapling planted by a visionary  has grown into a huge oak tree – yes, over a span of  five decades, De Nobili School, Digwadih, with its humble beginning has become one of the premier institutions of Jharia-Dhanbad Coalfield. Hundreds and thousands of students who have graduated from De Nobili till date, are spread all over  the country and the globe as successful professionals, holding  prestigious positions in their own fields of work.

While I was comfortably seated at a meeting, I  listened  to the bio-data of  the next speaker as it  was being read out. In the reading, mention was made of  the high marks which he had achieved in the school certificate examinations. My mind said within me, “Who cares now about school certificate exams? What has he done since then?”

Dear Friends,

Not very long ago did we hear the clamour “Bring back dada; Chappell ko hata do” on the streets of Kolkata and elsewhere from the diehard fans of the former Team India Captain, when he was unceremoniously sent to the cooler by the then powers-that-be.  And the iron-willed Saurav did make a loud comeback with a winning knock of 51 in Durban that sent his detractors for cover behind bushes and made his bête noire blink like Sher Khan at the sight of fire. (Well, guru Greg  comes from the land of bushes and fires!)
