Rajat Bhatia (79 batch) pays a rich tribute to Fr George A Hess SJ through One Man's Dream - A Million Kids' Beneficence, a book on Fr Hess’ vision, life and achievements. Some extracts...

The Book also chronicles the history of De Nobili School and the Jesuits including founding Principal late Fr FX McFarland, Fr Kirsh, Fr T Peacock, Fr Hunt, Fr E Welch, Fr Eugene Power, Fr J Keogh, Fr H Lobo, Fr Eric Cassel, Fr George Thana and Fr Pius Fernandes.

To contribute to the charity and obtain a copy of the book, draw your cheque / demand draft in favour of "De Nobili School", FRI, Dhanbad. For outstation cheques, please add Rs 75 for clearance charges and Rs 75 for courier. Mail your request to Fr George Hess SJ or Rajat Bhatia at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. A significant part of the cost of printing the first 1000 copies was borne by Anurag Dixit and partly by Vishal Bhatia. Even the printers agreed to forego some of the costs for a while.

Generous contributions by Nobilians and other well wishers of the school from around the world have helped enormously. Many people made contributions well and above what would be a fair price of the book. In the United States, some Nobilians said that at $ 25 the book is a steal and they would like to pay $ 40. Some Nobilians and even some people who have never been to India, contributed $ 100 towards the book. One of Rajat's classmates who is now a very senior executive at Citibank India sent in a check for Rs 4000. Another Nobilian who was in the school's hostel was instrumental in selling more than 10 copies of the book through his friends. Libraries in the USA have also sent in contributions for the book.

We are very grateful for everyone's contribution and their efforts in raising awareness about the book.

All revenues above what is needed to defray some of the money still owed to the printers are going into a special account at De Nobili School set up by Father Hess. This account will be used to provide for scholarships, books and other facilities for needy students, whose families cannot afford to send their children to De Nobili School otherwise. We thank everyone once again for their generous contributions".
