Editorial: Sad Diwali

It is a sad sad Diwali for the family of Atif, a student of class two at De Nobili School, Digwadih, who was kidnapped and brutally murdered. According to media reports, his neighbour and driver were involved. I fail to understand what kind of person will do such a heartless crime. It is so shocking. We have fallen to such lows.

While we live in the luxury of our urban lives, we celebrate the success of our alumni, the lives of present Nobilians enter into a dangerous terrain with each passing day.

It is a shame in the manner in which De Nobili Schools are being targeted by certain section of media and fundamentalists in Dhanbad. The decision to raise the student fees was solely based on the reccomendation of the 6th pay commission. While the government and corporate employees enjoy a high salary, teachers in De Nobili cannot be deprived of the same.

There has often been issues about the detoriating quality of teachers at DNS. If I may put it in simple words, Good teachers come with Good salary. DNS does not have any corporate or political backing nor does it get an funds from 'phoren' (a general perception) or the government. Where would the money come from? DNS has always depended on donations and fees.

De Nobili family prays for the safety of all the hostages in the hotels of Mumbai and recovery of the injured. We condemn the attacks on Mumbai and our hearts go out to the families of the victims. We still don't have any news whether any Nobilians have been affected or not. Let's hope not. If you have any news, do write to us.Our hearts also go out to the Tatas. Built by the great entrepreneur Jamshedji Tata, the 103-year-old Taj Mahal Palace hotel is a landmark in Mumbai and represents the great Indian dream.

According to a story, Tata was denied entry into one of the grandest hotels of British time - Watson's Hotel as it was meant for ‘Whites only´. Tata wanted to set up his own hotel which would surpass Watson's in all its glory. And that's how India's first super luxury hotel came into being.

Dear Readers

DeNobili.edu.in is back. It was hacked by some group claiming to be from Saudi Arabia. Anti-national slogans were posted on the website. This is a disgusting form of cyber terrorism. De Nobili School, FRI, Dhanbad is an educational institute which never indulges in religious or political propaganda. The portal acts a platform for students and alumni to get the latest from their beloved school.

Alumni, who are doing well in the information technology field, are requested to kindly suggest methods to secure our website and save it from hacker in the future. Kindly send your mails to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Thank you for your support.

Hats off to the Nobilian spirit.

Warm regards

KUNAL MAJUMDER (ICSE 2001 & ISC 2003)
