Dear Parents and Alumni,
Greetings to you all!
1. SOS: As you are aware the flood situation in Bihar is very grim and lakhs of people have been rendered homeless. The communication has been totally disrupted for more than 10 days. We need to come forward to help these calamity hit people in the best way possible. Therefore, I kindly appeal to you to come forward and contribute generously for the cause. We are requesting you, dear parents, for a minimum amount of Rs 20/- per student and of course, there is no upper limit. For those who can afford are requested to be more generous. I am sure God will reward your generosity abundantly. All our teaching, non-teaching and administrative staff will also contribute one day's wages. We will channelize the contributions from all De Nobili Schools through our Voluntary Organizations in Patna (Bihar), so that every bit will reach the needy people. Kindly, enter the amount in the tear-off slip below and return the slip duly signed, together with the amount.
2. On behalf of the school I thank wholeheartedly all the parents, who participated in contributing to Educare, an organization which is involved in sponsoring the Thalassemia (very deadly genetic disorder) patients. We were able to contribute approximately Rs 1,50,000/- for the cause. Two of our own students are suffering from such a disorder and we will be trying to get the organization to help them.
3. We had a series of class-wise parent-teachers meetings in the months of April - June. May be it was a new kind of experience for most of us. I was encouraged by the response of the parents, both in terms of numbers and interaction. We have noted down the valuable suggestions given by you and are looking into the feasibility of those suggestions before implementing some of them. However, I must once again emphasize that the meetings will be meaningful if the follow-up of the same becomes a reality. Hence, it is time for us to get into active mode.
4. The second term was a busy one with the academic and extra-curricular activities. This year our school team gave an improved performance in the Inter-Nobilian English & Hindi Elocution and Speech Contest held at De Nobili School, Sijua on Saturday, 16th August 2008. Among the seven schools the overall position of our school was 2nd. Sourav Bakshi of 10C won the 1st prize for senior elocution and the debating team (Srinjoy Pramanik 12A & Suraj Agarwalla 12B) was the runner up. Suraj was also awarded the best speaker in the category. It was a proud moment for the school, when Sourav Bakshi also won the Gold Medal at the Inter-Jesuit Elocution and Extempore contest held at St. Xavier's School, Durgapur on Saturday, 30th August 2008. The Junior Basketball team reached the finals of ISCE zonal level tournament held at De Nobili CMRI on 31st July.
5. Late coming: We find that a lot of students are arriving late, many even after the morning assembly. Even the neighbourhood students like CFRI colony, Patherdih etc. have been found to be late. Dear parents, kindly ensure that your ward leaves home early enough to reach the school on time. We might have to ask the habitual late comers, i.e. those who do not come by buses, to return home.
May God bless you all abundantly!
