“This is the third attempt to organize the Alumni Association, but each time, somehow the things have not worked out the way they should have been. Today, I stand here with full conviction that the association is here to stay as the response that we have been getting from outstation students has been overwhelming. Internet today has made things much easier and the new generation is very net savvy,” said Rajan Gandotra, outgoing secretary, DAA.
The last AGM was held on Feb 6th, 2005 and thereafter the Homecoming Golden Jubilee was held on December 28th, 2005.
Gandotra acknowledged that there is the huge gap in the meetings has cast a misconception that the membership funds have been misused and the association has died an untimely death. He clarified the association membership funds are intact and not a rupee has been spent.
On Golden Jubilee celebration, he said, “There has been a misconception that there has been misappropriation of funds collected for Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The fact remains otherwise that we still have an unpaid liability of Rs. 33,640. I have had to personally pay Rs.25740 in the process.”
He added, “The publishing of the Golden Jubilee Souvenirs has come out as the best possible solution and we are working towards this. We have to print a minimum of 500 coloured copies so that we may issue one each to all the participants and others for donors etc.”
According to Gangotra, the immediate challenges for DAA are:
The detail of the expenses during the Golden Jubilee was unfortunately not passed and it was called for re-auditing. There was some misunderstanding regarding the school annual, but everything was sorted out. Alumni money was never utilised to bring out the magazine. A second meeting will be held on the 28th of July.
